1971 Decommissioning Pamphlet & POD

The 30 April 1971 POD and Decommissioning Ceremony pamphlet is presented here courtesy of Tim Jones of Mike Division who served aboard the USS SAINT PAUL CA-73 from 1969 until the end.

ODE TO THE SAINT PAUL

Something there is about a ship

that stirs a seamen's heart.

Something that stings the eye a bit

When ship and seamen part.

Something that swells the chest with

pride to see her underway.

Something that chills you down inside

when they tie her up one day.

Haul down the flag, draw the fires and

then pronounce her dead.

You see a ship, a thing alive the same

as you and me.

Our mission is to sail her - her's to

bridge for us the sea.

All living things must die I guess

After having give their all.

But I'll confess, I will shed a tea

when I leave the old SAINT PAUL.
